John earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration, as well as a Master’s degree in Public Policy, from Pepperdine University. He has passed the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Series 65 exam and successfully completed the Investment Management Workshop for Senior Investment Professionals sponsored by the CFA Institute at Harvard University.

In addition to his work with the UPIA, John has pursued his passion for teaching by lecturing on Wealth Management and Alternative Investments at both the University of Portland and Portland State University. He has frequently been invited as a guest speaker at the City National Annual Economic Forum and has been quoted in numerous publications, including the Wall Street Journal, Worth, Kiplinger’s, and Bloomberg. Additionally, John regularly writes Pathstone’s strategy and investment commentary and updates.

In his spare time, John enjoys reading books that relate to the field of Behavioral Finance (Psychology, Sociology, Investments, and History). He also enjoys applying his investment philosophy (Quality at a Reasonable Price) to the selection of wines from around the world.
